The Story Behind Wildflowers

Some designs begin with a sketch. Others begin with a place.

For Wildflowers, the inspiration began during an Alaskan summer.

While traveling through Alaska, Truett spent her days exploring the landscape and photographing the wildflowers that blanketed meadows, mountainsides, and open stretches of shoreline. What captivated her most was not any individual flower, but the way entire landscapes seemed to come alive through layers of color, texture, and movement.

Each evening, she returned to the deck of the ship with her photographs, watercolor supplies, and journal. Surrounded by the scenery that had inspired her throughout the day, she spent hours painting and documenting the impressions she wanted to preserve.

Those watercolor journals would eventually become the foundation for Wildflowers, now the best-selling design in the Truett Designs collection.

From Photographs to Watercolors

Back aboard the ship, the photographs became studies in color, light, and atmosphere.

Many of the watercolor paintings were created using specialty paints infused with mica, which added a subtle luminosity to the artwork. As light reflected across the water and shifted throughout the day, the shimmering pigments helped capture the feeling of the landscape in a way that felt almost impossible to describe with words alone.

What emerged was not a study of individual flowers but an interpretation of the landscape itself.

Capturing a Landscape in Bloom

Wildflowers was never intended to be a traditional floral.

Rather than focusing on botanical accuracy, the design was created to capture the feeling of standing within a landscape alive with color and movement. Layers overlap, colors blend, and forms drift together much as they do in nature.

The result feels expressive yet timeless, bringing depth and artistry to a room without feeling formal or overly decorative.

A Collected Work of Art

The most memorable interiors rarely feel decorated. They feel collected.

Designers are often drawn to Wildflowers because it feels more like a collected work of art than a traditional pattern. Much like an original painting acquired over time, the design brings personality, depth, and character to a space while allowing architecture, furnishings, and materials to remain part of the story.

Whether paired with antiques, tailored upholstery, natural linens, marble, grasscloth, warm wood finishes, or contemporary furnishings, Wildflowers layers effortlessly into a wide range of interiors.

Designed for Layering

One of the reasons Wildflowers continues to resonate with interior designers is its versatility.

The pattern works beautifully alongside:

  • Natural linens
  • Tailored upholstery
  • Grasscloth wallcoverings
  • Warm wood finishes
  • Marble and natural stone
  • Woven textures
  • Antiques and collected furnishings
  • Classic stripes and textured solids

Its ability to bridge traditional and contemporary influences allows it to feel equally at home in historic residences, coastal retreats, mountain homes, and modern traditional interiors.

From Artwork to Interior

Over time, Wildflowers has evolved into a collection of luxury wallpaper, designer fabric, handcrafted pillows, decorative bolsters, and luxury bedding.

What began as photographs and watercolor journals created during an Alaskan summer became a design that now lives within beautifully layered homes. Whether used on the walls of a room or introduced through textiles and bedding, Wildflowers brings a sense of artistry, atmosphere, and place to an interior.

The result feels less like a decorative pattern and more like a collected work of art thoughtfully woven throughout a home.

Why Wildflowers Endures

Design trends inevitably change, yet certain designs continue to resonate because they offer something deeper than a trend.

Wildflowers tells a story.

It is a reflection of a landscape, a travel experience, and a series of watercolor journals created while surrounded by one of the most beautiful environments in the world. It captures a moment in time while remaining remarkably timeless.

Perhaps that is why Wildflowers has become the most beloved design at Truett Designs.

Not because it follows a trend, but because it brings something more lasting into a home—artistry, beauty, and a sense of place.
